Spud Poles are used to stabilize your floating dock. They fit into black polyurethane sleeves inside each corner of the frame. They are installed by sliding them through the corner and driving them slightly into the bottom of the lake or river. Once in place they prevent the dock from shifting and torquing while allowing it to ride up and down with changing currents and water levels. Spuds are available in schedule-40 galvanized steel and schedule-80 aluminum. Lengths vary from 8 to 16 feet and should be selected according to water depth, type of bottom material, and the anticipated change in water levels.

Spuds should only be used in areas where the dock is protected from strong currents, high winds and moving ice. In less protected areas and in places wher the water depth is over 10 feet. We can also custom-build a heavy duty external spud system as an alternative to other types of anchoring.

Heavy Duty Spuds

Our external spud system consists of a 4 inch galvanized steel pipe that slides through an aluminum hoop mounted on the outside of the dock frame. The hoop is easily attached through the external nut channels, and is cushioned by pvc rollers and bumpers that protect the frame. This heavy duty spud system provides a stronger alternative to our regular internal poles, but may not provide the safety and flexibility of our weighted anchoring system.
